When Australians hunted bandicoots
Sep 21, 2026 · 17m
Since the early pastoral expansions of colonial Australia, the native bandicoot has attracted the ire of farmers and gardeners, blamed for digging up crops, ruining lawns, and even spreading disease. A new research paper traces 150 years of animosity to the bandicoot via old newspaper clippings. It tells the story of a maligned and misunderstood creature, once abundant but now threatened. Guest: Annabel Ellis, PhD candidate, University of Sydney Read Annabel's research paper here
